July 2, 2015  |
Westwood, NJ - Dr. Amit Trivedi of Advanced Laparoscopic Associates recently performed the first surgery using the Gastrisail™ at HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley.  The product, invented by Trivedi and brought to the market by Medtronic was developed based on physician need and feedback and will address many issues to enhance the sleeve gastrectomy surgery used on obese patients.

“HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley provides the highest level of quality care in the region and we continue to serve our patients and community with that in mind each day,” said Emily Holliman, president and CEO of HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley.  “Our hospital features some of the most innovative, world-renowned surgeons and Dr. Amit Trivedi demonstrates that level of excellence.  We are proud to be able to offer this service to our Bariatric patients.”

“The fight against obesity is something I am extremely passionate about.  With 15 years of experience, I’ve seen the needs of physicians during sleeve gastrectomy and I believe the Gastrisail™ addresses many of those needs,” said Dr. Amit Trivedi, Bariatric Surgeon and creator of the Gastrisail™ system. “At the same time, the product offers a more patient friendly experience during weight loss surgery.”

Developed by Medtronic's Minimally Invasive Therapies Group, the GastriSail system combines the benefits of three devices into one, allowing surgeons to consistently size and decompress the stomach pouch and test for leaks without removing and reinserting another device. With fewer device insertions, there is potentially less risk of irritating or injuring the esophagus during the procedure. The GastriSail system received U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance in February 2015 Continue>
